NORTHWEST SUMMER SOCCER INTENSIVE

The Northwest Summer Soccer intensive is an opportunity for South Coast athletes to work with collegiate athletes in a fast paced, skill driven environment. During this 12 hour intensive program, College of Idaho soccer standout Emma Powley will guide athletes through the introduction and mastery of various skills. Our small group, indoor environment, allows maximum ball contacts and coach feedback. Through our camp structure and connection to the professional game, an environment is created that keeps players invested in their own development long after the camp concludes.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Foot Skill Progressions:

Dribble, juggle, pass, loft; basic foot skills are the building blocks for the game of soccer. The fastest way to elevate a player's game is for them to work on and improve their basic foot skills. Foot skills make excellent soccer "homework". In this session, we take a look at how these skills integrate into the not only skill based drills but also in play.

Defending:

The defender's primary job is to deny penetration. The defender does this by preventing the attacker from either passing forward, dribbling toward the goal or shooting. This is achieved through pressure and positioning. Players will walk through fundamental and advanced defensive concepts, in addition to tactical positioning, with the goal of gaining a comprehensive understanding of not only how, but when to engage and defend.

Attacking:

The key to success in soccer is solid, well-rounded attacking skills. And in today's game all 11 players on the field, not just the strikers, need to be proficient in attacking play. Strikers must master the technical and tactical skills, finding new ways to put the ball between the goalposts. Defenders must be willing and able to move forward and join in attacks. Even goalkeepers must know how to launch and coordinate a counterattack

Session IV - Application, Evaluation, Q & A:

Our last session of the week will be an opportunity for athletes to not only apply what they have learned but also to be given a comprehensive evaluation on their improvement. This session will wrap with a Q & A, allowing athletes, and parents the opportunity to ask questions regarding any content covered within the workshop.
